Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus – Quick Look and comparison
The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are similar devices with the exception of a few aspects.
Physical sizes, Body, Colors
When it comes to physical size, there is a noticeable difference with the S9 Plus being a bit larger than the S9. The S9’s dimensions are 147.7 H x 68.7 W x 8.5 D mm with a weight of 163g and the S9 Plus’s dimensions are 158.1 H x 73.8 W x 8.5 D mm with a weight of 189g.
The S9 and S9 Plus bodies appear to feature a metal frame and utilise Gorilla Glass 5. The phones are also IP68 rated, so they should be able to withstand dust, dirt, sand and can be submerged in water up to a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes.
Regarding available colors, both the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are available in three colors – Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Lilac Purple.
Displays
As expected both devices displays vary in size. The S9 has a 5.8 inch display and the S9 Plus has a 6.2 inch display. Although with technology and resolution, both devices share the same dual edge Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 (Quad HD+).
Cameras and Video recording
Though, what is perhaps the biggest difference between both devices is their cameras, as while the S9 features a single rear camera the S9 Plus has two. Both the S9 and S9 Plus come with a wide-angle camera, whilst the S9 Plus has an additional telephoto camera. Both wide-angle cameras are 12 MP and are capable of a dual aperture of F1.5 and F2.4. The S9 Plus’s telephoto is also 12 MP, though it only has a single aperture of F2.4.
Regarding the front camera, both devices have a single 8.0 MP camera with an aperture of F1.7.
Both the S9 and S9 Plus are capable of recording UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) video at 60fps with their rear cameras. The front camera is capable of recording QHD 2K (2560 x 1440) video at 30fps.
Processors, RAM and Storage
In the UK the S9 and S9 Plus feature a Samsung Exynos octa-core processor with clock speeds ranging from 2.7GHz and 1.7GHz. In the USA the S9 and S9 Plus feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor with clock speeds ranging from 2.8GHz and 1.7GHz.
As standard the S9 comes equipped with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. However, the S9 Plus comes with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage.
Connectivity and Other features
The S9 and S9 Plus also have 4G LTE, WiFi ac and Bluetooth v5 connectivity. Other features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 port, can fast charge, have an external microSD card slot and stereo speakers. Both devices have a fingerprint sensor on the back below the rear camera and a dedicated button on the side for Samsung’s Bixby assistant.
